In the heart of the world’s entertainment capital, Brazilian actor, director, and screenwriter Renato Fimene brings to life 158 Steps—a solo show that walks the thin line between memory and dream, identity and invisibility, art and survival.
Written and directed by César Baptista, and featuring projection design by Thiago Roma, 158 Steps offers a striking blend of theater, cinema, and lived experience. Performed in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, it is the first trilingual play of its kind in the U.S., offering a rare and vital platform for Latin American voices in the arts.
Through an intimate and fragmented narrative, Fimene becomes a mirror to the immigrant artist’s journey: the endless auditions, the erasure, the longing, and the flickering flame of creative hope. As the lines blur between character and actor, reality and fiction, the play transforms into a metatheatrical meditation on what it means to belong—not just to a place, but to a purpose.
This production marks the Hollywood debut of acclaimed Brazilian director César Baptista, known for his award-winning theatrical work in São Paulo. The performance also features immersive projection work by Thiago Roma, whose visual storytelling bridges the worlds of stage and screen.
158 Steps officially premieres on Thursday, July 17 at 8PM, launching eight powerful nights of performance at The Artisans Creative Space in Los Angeles.
